The University of Burgos is a public university whose mission is based on the provision of comprehensive, quality teaching, close to the student, focused on internationalisation and which, in just 25 years, has become a benchmark in Spanish university research and knowledge transfer to the business world. It has been distinguished by the Ministry of Education as a Campus of International Excellence (CEI).
At present, its educational offer is made up of 24 bachelor’s degrees, 5 of which are also taught online and 3 are bilingual in English and Spanish, 8 double degrees, 26 master’s degrees, 3 of which are online and 6 blended, 11 doctoral programs and 20 UB-specific degrees with about 10.000 students. Centria University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) is a multi-disciplinary educational organisation providing degree programs in 5 main education fields like business, technology, social and health sciences, culture, humanities and education. CUAS is a University of Applied Sciences of about 4000 students and 320 employees, producing and offering knowledge with a big heart.
Our university of applied sciences (UAS) offers several great fields of study, skills, and achievements, of which students, personnel, and business life in the region to be proud of. In Centria, we have our feet firmly on the ground of three Ostrobothnian regions, on the Kokkola, Pietarsaari, and Ylivieska campuses. Centria UAS is located in a very export driven area of Finland. The Ostrobothnian coastline has a strong tradition of entrepreneurship and the largest number of companies per capita on the mainland of Finland. The export share of approximately 71 % is also exceptionally high. The Business Administration Department of Centria University is together with the whole university involved in many projects aiming at developing the learning experience, entrepreneurship and soft skills. Today Centria has both classroom-based learning, as well as different types of online and distance learning approaches.
Our RDI activities are regionally significant and impactful. In our operating area, industrial production and exports per person are among the highest in Finland. Some of the key areas include mechanical wood processing in Ylivieska and the surrounding region, inorganic chemistry industry in the Kokkola Industrial Park and Alholmens Industrial Park in Pietarsaari. Together, they employ nearly 8,000 people and make an annual turnover of more than 4 billion euros. In addition, there are many other successful industries in our region. These regional features are central in our activities and research.
The competence of our digitalisation team is strongly focused on the various challenges posed by digitalisation, and it develops opportunities to apply the latest technology. In our chemistry and bio-economy team, the circular economy and sustainable development are at the core. Our production technology teams’ study, for example, how robotics and artificial intelligence can improve efficiency and occupational safety in companies. The entrepreneurship and wellbeing team is responsible for ensuring that we also take people’s wellbeing and inclusion into account. The entrepreneurship and well-being team is in-charge of the HEADLINES project and the main activities of this department focusses on (1) developing business models and supporting entrepreneurship, (2) promoting health and wellbeing and (3) finding new pedagogical solutions and enhancing learning.
In addition, Centria RDI offer training and development services to companies, especially in areas where there is not enough other provision. Cooperation between education and RDI is a special interest at Centria as well as multidisciplinary work between RDI fields.

IMDEA Food Institute, one of the seven Madrid Institutes for Advanced Studies (IMDEA), is a public research centre founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government. The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) is a public university that combines quality teaching, intensive research and a high level of employment with a strong social commitment, being a benchmark in these areas, as recognized by various global indicators. In the QS World University Rankings 2021, the UAM ranks for the second consecutive year among the 200 best universities in the world. It is the second-best university in Spain, the first in Madrid, and is among the 100 most prestigious universities in Europe. In addition, UAM is part of OPERA (Office for the Promotion of European Research Activities) a consortium of the four leading Spanish public Universities in Brussels aiming at supporting European research activities and increase the number of funded projects.
